Please note: Savings shown are estimates for illustration only, not a guarantee. Actual utility costs and savings vary with the age, size and efficiency of your air conditioner and heating system, the condition of your ductwork, windows, doors and the rest of your home, how much air leaks in and out, your thermostat settings (especially during extreme heat and cold), seasonal equipment such as pool pumps and heaters, the number of people in your home, changes in electricity and gas rates, and the weather each year. A/C wear-and-tear savings assume a typical Texas system life of about 13.5 years and routine upkeep, and that reduced run time accounts for part of that wear; repair needs vary widely. Estimates are based on average Central Texas weather and published energy-efficiency data, including ENERGY STAR's finding that sealing and insulating saves homeowners an average of 15% on heating and cooling costs.
